Had an Interesting Visit Home
My Dad really took over my room. I went home from university last weekend and I expected to find my room as it had been. Instead my Dad had moved all of my stuff to this tiny loft above the Garage. They had gone in and knocked down all the walls in the upper floor of the house. Now it is a regular Pub. They have a big screen telly on one end, a folding table tennis table, a snooker table and a slot machine. My Childhood Memories of Fishing with My Grandmother and Grandfather
I live in a small town in Alabama. Like in most Southern towns, fishing is a popular sport here, and even when we're not fishing we're likely to be watching fishing dvds or simply talking about it - it's a way of life for us.
When I was growing up, my grandparents owned a houseboat and small lot on a nearby river. I have many happy memories of standing on the dock next to the houseboat and fishing with my grandparents. My grandfather was an especially avid fisherman. He loved catching large-mouth Bass, and had several of his trophies mounted on the wall of his den. I was an only grandchild, and he spent a great deal of time teaching me how to fish. My grandmother enjoyed the sport, as well, and would join us on the dock, hoping to catch something good for dinner that evening.
I tried very hard to learn how to cast with a rod and reel; however, I never quite mastered it the way my grandfather did. I loved fishing with a simple bamboo or cane pole, with just a line, hook, sinker, and bobbin attached. It was so thrilling to watch that bobbin go up and down, as a fish nibbled on the bait. I wasn't squeamish at all, and would bait my hook with worms, crickets, or minnows. I remember very well the day I hooked a large catfish. My grandfather helped me bring him in, and I immediately begged to keep the large whiskered fish as a pet. My grandfather quickly persuaded me to let him go, as he would be neither a good pet or particularly good eating that evening. I can still see that fish, gleaming on the dock, and remember how proud I was of my catch. Fishing with my grandparents are some of my best childhood memories.
